4-String Thunderbird Variation
I have always enjoyed doing modern interpretations of vintage designs, and this is the latest one to be completed. It is the great selection of contrasting woods that makes a relatively simple design look deluxe. The last detail to be determined was the bloodwood, and I can't imagine it being done with anything else. One nice advantage of bloodwood is that it retains the bright color permanently, unlike cocobolo or paduak, which quickly lose their red color to oxidation. The use of maple for the body helps to add weight, reducing the tendency for neck-dive with this body shape.
