Ampeg Inspired 4-String Bass
This was a unique challenge with a great result. Simply put, do a "woody" version of the old Ampeg AEB-1 bass. There were a lot of new jigs built for this one... The traditional colors were emulated with a bloodwood top and ebony inlay. One of the most unique aspects of the Ampeg design is the bridge, which floats atop a secondary magnetic pickup. This was designed to allow the bass to be used with non-metal strings, but results in a totally different tone than a normal pickup.
