Custom 9-String Guitar/Bass
Although the result of this concept seems natural to look at, it really pushed the bounds of functional design. The tuning goes a string higher than a normal guitar, and two strings down into the bass register. From the top, aebgdaebf#. This meant pushing the scale shift as much as possible, from 23.5" to 27.9". Note that the lower strings are placed incrementally wider, to allow for bass finger technique. The two pickups allow for splitting the signal into two separate instruments, and the electronics can be shifted passive separately for the guitar section while leaving the bass active. Oh, and the woods and inlay are gorgeous!
